Apple Sauce
Does any one know, when it comes to apple sauce instead of oil, is it the same amounts as the oil or more or less? Sweetened sauce or natural? I used to do this years ago but I cannot remember it now, also does anyone have suggestions of when to use it? I tried it with brownies, came out horrible. In what other things does it work? I know cakes but i am not much of a cake maker, prefer brownies.
Thanks,

Re: Apple Sauce
I have apple drops in my yard; I make apple sauce by putting in cored, halved, unpeeled apples in my Crock Pot. I used to slice, dice, put through a ricer....I realized I didn't need to. If I leave the apple sauce in the cooker for another day, I can get a nice brown apple butter, easily.
I use apple sauce one for one for fat, but I usually only substitute only half, partially because I use soyflour (and water) instead of egg so I worry about the moisture. I'm not very taste or texture sensitive, myself, so I probably should substitute the whole thing.

You can go one to one, just check that the consistency is about the same as it would be with oil.
Works great in muffins.
Applesauce cake, muffins, breads. Applesauce cake can be a pan cake, not a layered one, and you can make it thin so more like brownies. Add extra eggs to get a more brownie effect. I have a chocolate applesauce cake recipe.
Anyhoo, in general, should be an easy substitution. If it's not cooking right, use less, and make sure you have the eggs in it (binding). If it looks soupy, add more flour or oatmeal/oatbran/soak it up

Re: Apple Sauce
This may sound weird, but can you cook pork chops in a slow cooker in apple sauce. I cooked some yesterday in a marinade. Well, they are very tender, but the marinade is too strong for my taste. I want something sweeter tasting. Anyone ever try it?

Re: Apple Sauce
No but It sounds wonderful, when I was growing up the only way to eat porkchops was drowned in applesauce! Haven't had them in ages. (DH thinks the only way to eat them is shake in bake, eww, no offense)

Re: Apple Sauce
I like shake and bake, but they are sometimes tough. For some reason, pork chops have been real cheap here lately. I think I will try the applesauce thing.
