Question Providian merges with Washington Mutual

I received a letter from Providian in the morning mail stating that as of 01 October, 2005, Providian will merge with Washington Mutual. I am glad to hear that the bank will merge with Washington Mutual. WM is a good bank.

This is the only credit card I have, and it carries a low APR. Do merges do anything to a customer's low APR? Has anyone else received this information?

I had that happen one time. At first everything was fine, but a then I started getting information about changes and the changes were that my rates and fees would be increasing. I finally ended up cancelling my card and switching banks.

Given that Washington Mutual does not have a credit card presence, Providian will be run business as usual at least for the forseable future.

I don't think the merger will result in any breaks for present clients!
