Talking October Goals

These were my Sept. goals:

1. Paying off my Best Buy cc on 9/15. $458.53 - DONE

2. Pay at least $400 off on my Discover. I am returning to work after being out for surgery, which will help because I am going to be going back to my 2nd job, so I'll have an extra $235 a week to play with. All the income from this job is going to go towards Discover first, then savings. I may even be able to pay this card off, combined with income from my ft job. - NOT DONE - I'D SAY OOPS BUT SEE BELOW. STILL PAID OFF $200

2. Build up my EF. I would state a number, but since debt is the first priority, I can't. I have $500 in my account currently, $1k is a safe number that I expect to be at by the end of October (if not sooner). Long term goal is $10k. - I HAVE MET THIS GOAL AND SLIGHTLY EXCEEDED IT. I WENT AFTER THIS GOAL BEFORE DISCOVER.

3. Keep grocery budget at $250 a month, weekly totals at $105 for myself and my SO, Nick. Less if possible. Gas is of course a huge factor in this so we shall see. - Grocery budget BUSTED BY $50

4. Try to get 4-5 days of exercise in there - I need to lose some weight. Also cut back on soda consumption - this is the main reason I have put on weight. - DID IT EXCEPT FOR THIS PAST WEEK, WAS EXHAUSTED/SICK

I have pretty much the same goals for October, as well as preparing myself for Christmas shopping. I plan to try to attack Discover and put more $ in my EF at an equal pace now that I have the $1k safety cushion I wanted.

My September goals were as follows:

Quote:
1. Pay quarterly estimated taxes ON TIME! (have the money, just HATE doing it)-Succeeded.

2. $1000 to savings for emergency fund. Working on 3 months expenses right now ($5000) and I'm at $2000.- Succeeded- I'm now at just over $3000.

3. Learn more about mutual funds. -Succeeded

4. Work extra hours for my roommate, put that money into savings.- Not exactly. Worked extra, though not as many hours as I would have liked, and the checks are sitting on my dresser, so they're not in savings yet.

5. Have a budget, try to stick to it, track spending.- Succeeded- more or less. Didn't go under budget in every category, but I did try, and I tracked every penny I spent.
So some October goals?

1. $1500 to savings for emergency fund. I Will be nearly at $5000!
2. Finish applying for health insurance!
3. Continue to track spending, with a goal of decrease spending by 5% in October vs. September, excluding health insurance.
4. Cook 2 healthy, from-scratch dinners at home every week.

1. Continue to pay off debt. With our new budgeting system, I find we have surplus money left at the end of the month that previously we frittered away somehow. So I am now using that to pay down debt quicker.
2. Lose 4 lbs.
3. Stick to my groceries allowance even though we will have company for a few days.
4. Sell a few things online.

Instead of listing our goals, we should maybe list how we're going to get there - at least briefly!

Wow Bench press 230 is pretty damn good. What are you pushing now? I'm BP 150X10 for 3 sets, so 230 seems a long, long, far away.

1) Will have a new second part time job. Re-evaluate my budget to set with added income.
2) Want to buy running shoes for indoor exercise. I will look/shop, research in newspaper ads for sales to find the best price.
3) I worked extra hours last week and will receive extra pay in this week check. I will transfer $100.00 to my EF. (It is very low at this time and would feel so much better to have it grow)

I am doing pretty good, I think! Paid $100 to Discover this past Thursday, and another $200 is scheduled for this week. I plan to pay $100 each week as long as no surprises pop up. Even if I pay it off only in the $100 increments, it will be paid off the first week of December, helping me to meet my goal for the year of eliminating all my cc debt

I've been saving more than I have been paying off debt lately - We need to save for a security deposit so otherwise, Discover would probably be history already!
