I have a Sears, with a 0 balance. I use it once a year, and usually go to the local store and pay it off before the bill even comes. I got it to build up credit in my name after my divorce. But, my attorney said if I don't use it at least once a year, it wont build the credit up.
Last week I got a Visa thru MyPoints. I used it once, to get my 1000 bonus points. I will pay it off as soon as I get the bill. I think I charged $19 on it. I just took my house off the market 2 weeks ago. It just wasnt selling, so this fall, I am going to do some remodeling. We are also getting a Lowe's next month. So, I will get a Lowe's card. I have already been told they will offer a big promotion for people who take their card when the store opens. I will put the supplies on that card, and then pay it off, but will probably pay it off over 3 months. |

Well, let's see...I have about a gazillion!!!! Seriously, I have so many that I don't know how many I have--don't worry, I have them all put up in one place where I can put my hands on them; some are closed (i.e., most of the clothing and department store cards) and some are open (major credit cards plus Lowes, Sears, and JC Penney). And all but 2 have zero balances. I would guess I have about 15 to 20 cards (maybe more...at one point in my life, before I had a clue about money, I would apply for cards just to see if I could get one...and most times I was granted credit).
Now, as far as actual usage, I have one citibank card that I use regularly (and pay in full each month...I use it to get the 1 to 5% cash back on purchases), and I have a chase card with about $2500 on it (0% interest, will pay off in Feb 2006--I don't use that card for any purchases though, I got it to consolidate some other cards). So basically, out of all of those credit cards, I only use 1. My relationship with credit cards has been one of love/hate. I have way, way too many, but by the grace of God, I've been able to keep my credit in pretty good shape (score currently 773, knocking on wood that it stays that way ) despite all of the cards. At one time I was nearing $10000 balance on my cards, but that's down to $2500 now. So, I'm making progress, bit by bit!Now my husband, he's real good...he only has 2 cards, and he uses only 1 that he pays in full each month! |

Between my wife and I we have over 20 credit and debit cards. We keep a small balance on one of them (by choice) because part of your credit card score is the ratio between your credit card balance and credit available.
A zero balance would actually lower our score. |

We have 7 credit cards 4 visa, 3 mastercard. Total balance $1200, paid off this month. Then credit cards are going to be locked up.

I had 7 credit cards and 2 store cards, now I have 6 credit cards (soon to be 5!!) and 1 store card....I want to keep just 1 credit card (the one with the lowest interest) and 1 store card ...total balance on all of them is $8,600 ((OUCH))...

9. I always carry a balance up to 50% utilization when the rate is less than I can get from a savings account or bank cd. With low life of the balance transfers, this is most of the time. My everday card never carrys a balance of course.
