For me it always seems like everythign runs out either at once or one at a time.

I find myself at the store either more then I want or spending more at one time then I desire.

How does one combat this?

TIA

Well, for the unorganized (like me), stock up on things when they go on sale and basically always have a back-up. For the organized, keep a list of what you typically use. As you get close to running out of things add them to your shopping list with a "needed right now" "needed soon" or "buy only if on sale". Then buy according to priority until your budget is exhaused. . . . I'm sure the organized on this site will refine the method

I have the same problem. I only shop with cash now and when it's gone, it's gone.
Dh and I also keep a running tally of what we've spent on groceries for the month. It's like a game that we play together to try and keep it under a certain amount.

Suffer. I just suffer without, neccessity is the mother of invention and all that. Course there are a few things I wont go without, but generally not buying something for a week or more doesn't cause much problem here.

I also make a list if I can, a running list costs me more money cause I remember more stuff , but I do it when I am really annoyed at forgettting for a few weeks in a row. (we only shop on Thursdays, cept for gifts sometimes on sundays - DHs days off)

Buy bulk of frequently used items if you have the storage space. If you are lucky enough to have a deep freezer, but foods in bulk.

Make a list. Do meal planning. We have had some meal planning threads in the food and recipe section. And do without if you don't have it in the house.
