Airline credit card

Boy, it is hard to think of everything. Spouse needs to fly from detroit to los angelus next june to take the first year law exam. So, I need a credit card that will rack up the ticket for free for me. I have 9,000 of tuition to charge, 5000 in the next month. I need information on airline credit cards, how do they work, do you have one, no fees please, and anything else you all can help us with. Thank you. Our credit is excellent and should qualify for a high balance, however, we do pay our credit card every month. One idea is charge the tuition to the GM and do a balance transfer to double reward. Knowledge please.

I have one though Capitol One card and I earn 1 mile for $2 and some bonus miles. There is no annual fee. I just saw on their website that they have some deals.

I have an american express that gets airline points. If you ask, they waive the fee and its 2 dollars for dollar charged. Here is the website- https://www124.americanexpress.com/c...ic/earning.jsp

unfortunately the airline might be going under, but until they do, the flights are dirt cheap for me. Plus its my hometown carrier.

American Express also offers other airlines.

I have used a Northwest airline card through citibank for years (as mentioned before, no guarantee they will be around in the future) and have earned a free round trip ticket at least once a year. It does come with an annual fee, but I call each year when the fee comes and say I will cancel if the fee isn't waived and they have always cancelled it.

General cards will give you more flexibility on choosing an airline, but it will take longer to earn a ticket (I get a mile for every dollar spent).

Thank you. We have decided to go with United Airlines with the offer from them. They were giving 17,250 bonus points to sign up and only need 25000 for a free round trip ticket. We did pay a fee of 60 dollars but felt the guaranteed ticket was worth $60 because the bonus points make sure we will have it. I searched the internet for "free airline ticket credit cards" and found it. Hope I don't get screwed like the guy with the
Bank of America credit balance transfer.

Although the thought of taking a toddler on a flight lasting 18 hours to South Africa makes me shudder, I know that we will go home at some point and we should be seeking out ways to get miles towards the flight.

My experience has been that balance transfers don't qualify for the cash/points back program.

My only advice is to be very careful being tied to one Airline. Right now all the CC companies that run these programs are starting to demand large up front cash deposits to protect them. Delta is having problems coming up with the cash to make the deposit.
