Default What should the retirement age be?

Tony Blair has recently suggested the British retirement age should raise to 67 years of age in reaction to the ageing UK population.

What do you think the retirement age should be?

I plan to retire a lot earlier then 60 because I plan on being able to afford to. As for people who plan to lived on gov't money after they retire, they can work till they're 70 for not planning ahead. Just my 2 cents.

I'm retiring when I'm 51. I have 26 years to make it happen.

Will either of you be relying on the state pension?

I never felt work should be the focal point of one's life, unless, of course, you love your work and that's what you choose.

But so many labor so many years at a job they don't enjoy, then retire so late in life they can't enjoy it due to health problems or advanced age.

Americans work far long days with less vacation time, than much of the world. I have so many interests i'd like to pursue. And i want to enjoy the good health i have now to do that when i retire. So i vote age 60 or EARLIER, like 55.

No pension and I'm not going to rely on social security. I'm young and I don't think it will be around in 45+ years when I am eligible.

The population may be aging, but they're also living longer and will most liking face increasing medical bills to stay healthy. It's almost imperative that the aging population stay at work as long as possible.

Do you think that we're staying healthy for longer or just staying alive for longer?

That's a good question bruce. I'm more worried about my generation and younger b/c there are so many obese kids (in America at least) that do not have good healthy habits. We'll probably see people living longer, but the quality of life definitely not increasing.
