When I asked this question awhile ago Kashi told me to advertise on Craig's list. GOOD IDEA! (You can post in the garage sale section. You can also post some of the bigger items individually and say something like "available for viewing at my garage sale on such-and-such a date".) Also, with the signs remember KISS (keep it simple stupid ) Big and obnoxious with few details. We just said "garage sale" with an arrow and it worked very well.

I'll second that advertise, and also the nicer the 'stuff' looks displaywise, and condition, the more likely someone is to want it (wether they will pay is another story)

I think you need to think about your priorities. First, your job pays the bills and that is a priority to take care of the family. Missing a days pay is your decision, thus your responsibility. The reason could have been handled in a different way. Your matriarchial position is just an excuse. The only valid reason to miss work is an emergency - death, severe illness. So your lost pay, in my book does not warrant charity. Cell phones over the elec and gas bill? Again, where are your priorities? These are decisions. Maslow's hierarchy of needs states: air, water, shelter, warmth are priorites and NEEDS. I suggest you look at your income and outgo and stop looking for ways to scam charities to pay for things you WANT. Sorry, but this is the way I see it. You are being irresponsible.

I cannot believe that you would even post such a thing. The OP is off work one day a week to help with a special needs child, that is not being selfish. What exactly do you consider a special needs child care? I consider that a giving, loving act that families do for one another. They are asking for ways to help lower costs and you act like some martyr(sp) and tell them they are irresponsible. Everyone on this board is in some kind of financial trouble that has arisen out of irresponsibility including yourself! Everyone is looking for advise and ideas that they themselves have not thought of. The OP is already making a wise decision on the cell phone. and I do not see anywhere that they are trying to scam charities. The only one that is even close is where I recommended they call their light company and workout a PAYMENT plan, not a charity hand out. Unless you consider a yard sale charity! I am so sorry but THAT is the way I see it. you are being Rude. You know I came to this board cuz we are barely staying above water and was hoping for some ideas to make it easier to figure out. I am so glad that someone else has answered my posts rather than you. I may not have returned.
