Default Im buying a new (used) car

I have decided to get a new (for me) used (a couple years old) car since mine currently has over 100,000 miles. I have decided exactly what I want yet, but I'll probably stick with a Honda or Toyota. Does anyone have a good recommendation with a used car they have had good results with?

If you haven't done so already, you will want to visit Consumer reports and read what they have to say about the models you are interested in. I believe they have a book rating used cars too.

I hope you find the baby that you are looking for!

You will also want to pay a visit to Edmunds.com where they have an extremely useful tool that lets you compare the True Cost of owning different model cars.

I have a Honda accord that I bought used a few years ago and it has been wonderful. Very reliable and hardly ever neds to go in to get fixed. I'm sure I7ll get another one when it's time for me to get a new car.

Congrats on being the 100k mile club! However do you really need a new car or are you just getting nervous about the mileage being that high.

Do your research! Don't buy brand new but something in the 1-2 year old range. No leasing and no gimmicks. Try to get your financing from the bank and if you could pay in cash even better (but dont tell the salesman that

Good luck!

This may be of interest. It's a list of energy efficient car models

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy ranked the “greenest” and “meanest” 2004 cars based on fuel economy and emissions -- as well as the estimated impact of those emissions on health and global warming.

Thank you all for the good advice and links. I still haven't decided for sure, but will make a final decision in the next week or so. I will let you know what I finally decide upon.

I have a friend who knows somebody that is selling their car because they are moving to Hawaii. I will go and take a look at it this weekend. The car shopping is fun, but exhausting. I'll be happy when I have decided and have the new (used) car parked out in front.

check your cars maintenance schedule. Unless there is a major service that is coming due (timing belt, etc) then 100k miles is nothing for todays cars.

Any make/model that is properly maintained (oil changes especially!) should last at least 200k.

Remember, the car you have you know the history and problems it has had. A used car could be a headache so do your research.

Not criticizing OP, but it always makes me laugh becuase Honda and Toyota owners are typically pretty loyal, usually based on the premise that "they run forever" and yet the auto industry has it so ingrained in our heads that 100k is a sign of an aging car that we still go buy new cars when we hit that mark even if our car maybe be only half (or less!) way through its potential lifespan. Truly mean nothing against you; my CR-V rolled over 100k this summer and I did the same thing -- started shopping, thought I was going to get something newer, but ultimatley stayed with it. It's now got 116,000 and the truth is that in the 50,000 miles I've owned it, outside of regular oil changes and air filters, the only maintenance I've had to do to it is get new tires. Glad I have decided to stick it out because even if it does end up needing work in the near future, its still the lowest maintenance car I've ever owned.

Just wanted to point out that this thread is over 7 years old!

How I wish that new posters would stop dredging these things up.

Both of our cars (2 Toyotas) are nearing 150,000 miles. I don't know that either will reach 200K, at least not in our possession, but I totally agree that 100K is not the time to ditch them.

Neat link but I wish you could customize it a bit more -- for example enter what you know the taxes and fees to be because obviously it varies greatly from state to state. Also, the financing line should't be automatic. Not only does not everyone finance but among those who do you could have a 3% rate or an 18% rate...hardly comparable.

If you have decided to but the new (used) car then one thing I suggest you that search for the best auto deals in you area for used car and if you are not satisfied try to google the best used car dealer near and I think by this you will get a perfect one for you after seeing customer reviews towards them.
