Can we sell my deceased father's shares of stocks that are in his name. There are 5 that have his signature and gave them to my brother when he was still alive. Can my brother sell the 5 shares with my dad's signature that are in the name of my father. What should we do to sell the shares that are in my father's name.

To sell the certiticate you needs to deposit them into a brokerage account. Because the certificates are in your deceased father name only the exceutor of the estate can deposit them. to deposit the certificate most brokerage form require the following documents: Certified Copy of death cerificated, Affidavit of domicile, and couple other form that the firms will give you.
Some states required a letter form the probate courts. If you have a broker. call him or her and tell them to do all the work for you. thats why you pay them for. If you dont have a broker, contact a local discount brokerage frim like scottrade or TD ameritrade and they will help you with everything. That will be the inexpensive route |
