Default Best credit card deal around?

After Hurricane Irene, my husband and I have decided to purchase a standby generator (we didn't have power for 6 nights...but on the whole, consider ourselves very lucky). The original plan was to just put it on the Amex, earn membership rewards equivalent to $ spent, and then pay it in full. But with the holidays coming, curious if there's any attractive credit card promo deals out there (no payment for 6 months + $ cash back or gift card bonus or XYZ miles)? If you come across, would appreciate if you can pass along? Thanks in advance!

I think the Capital One Venture Rewards Card is one of the most attractive rewards cards on the market right now. 25,000 bonus miles for spending $1,000 during the first 3 months, the annual fee is waived for the first year, and you also get 2 points for every dollar spent. I use this card myself.

If you're looking for more of a cash back deal with a 0% interest promo period, the Chase Freedom $100 Cash Back Promo is worth checking out too.

There are several; Discover More Card, Citi Platinum Select Mastercard, and Capital One Platinum Prestige Credit Card. I suggest you visit their official websites and learn more about the details before you make a selection.

2 points all the time or just during the intro time?

I have heard that Fidelity has 2% all the time, but no miles that I know of.

I think my spouse uses Chase and gets something like 1% back on gas, and sometimes 2-3% back (depending upon the season of the year, they break it up quarterly as to where you can get a higher cash-back discount) on things like groceries and home repair/maintenance supplies. It's not a bad deal, but honestly, I am getting kind of sick of having to wait a year to get a check from them (rewards). It is always small (around $50) and doesn't feel like they reward you that much.

You might want to check out other companies.

2 miles per dollar spent all the time for the Venture Rewards card. It does have a $59 annual fee, which is waived for the first year. They also offer a no annual fee version that gives 1.25 miles per dollar spent.

We have the Fidelity Retirement Rewards card that gets 2% back on all purchases. We have it set up to put all of the rewards into our Roth IRA's, but these can also be used for cash-back, gift cards, travel, etc.

We also have a Chase Freedom card that gave us $125 cash back for spending a certain amount when we first got the card. The Chase Freedom has rotating categories that give 5% back (currently gas, airlines, car rentals. next quarter is restaurants, movie theaters, department stores). We only use the Chase card if we're spending on something that's in the 5% category or if the Fidelity card isn't accepted (because it's AMEX).

Neither card has an annual fee, and we've been very satisfied with the customer service. In fact, we have a good chunk of business with Fidelity (Credit card, savings, retirement, etc) because they have the best customer service I've ever encountered.

That sounds very good, provided you cancel the card after the first year.

If you spend more than about $8K per year on the card, it actually pays for the annual fee itself. Anything less than that, and the no annual fee option is probably the better choice if you plan on keeping the card longer than 1 year.

I just found out that my primary credit card is being transferred to Bank of America.... boo...... It was the Charles Schwab card, with 2% cash back on everything. It's great -- no foreign transaction fees, no annual fee, and great rewards. I'm looking at what BoA wants to transfer me to, and it's not NEARLY as good. I've all but decided against keeping the account open.

Now I just need to find a replacement card. I'm looking around, but haven't found a good one that seems to compare.... It's a shame, I really liked that credit card, it was really useful.

I think we are looking more seriously at the Fidelity card. We have Fidelity accounts already.

I use Perkstreet Financial. It's an online checking account with a debit card. Every time you use your debit card you have to run the card as a credit card. (Don't use your pin.)

If you maintain a balance of 5K or more you get 2% back on every purchase where you run the debit card as credit and not debit. If you maintain less that a 5K balance then you get 1% back.

You can take the cash back in several ways but we take it in a gift card that can be used anywhere. It's redeemed in $100.00 increments. We have been customers since March 2011 and thus far have received $658.00 in cash back. We use it to buy our groceries. Needless to say I try and use my Perkstreet card to pay as much as I can.

So I get 2% back and no credit card debt. I used to use a credit card to rack up miles but I have 300K miles and haven't used them yet so this made much more sense to me. I will use the miles eventually. This I can use now. It's saving us real money.

Default Chase Freedom - $250 Sign up Bonus

Chase Freedom is now running a $250 sign up Bonus if you spend $500 in the first 3 months on the card. They give you back 1% on every purchase and 5% on rotating categories (you need to sign up every couple of months to get the 5%).

I can't put the link because I don't have 15 posts yet but if you go to makingyourmoneygofurther.blogspot.com (for some reason this doesn't come up as a link) you can find the link on the left hand side.
