Default realize your frugal?

Okay I've never thought of my DH and I as frugal, but I realized just now we are. I honestly think we are pretty cushy our lifestyle and have it good. I don't worry about bills, as do many here. And I'm not a spender like many on here. Living life simply is a way of life not because I have to.

But when did you realize you were frugal? I realized it when I typed what our fun money was and what we spend on things like eating out, groceries, etc that woah, as a percentage of our income it's a lot less than I thought.

When did you realize you were frugal? I've felt spendy but I guess not as bad as it seems.

When I downgraded our cable to basic, cancelled our phone service and went with a $25 a year pre-paid cell phone instead. I realized, hey, we are pretty frugal now.

Haven't quite gotten around to using cloth instead of paper towels though.

I've been that way for awhile. In high school, my friends would tease me that I'm too cheap. I used to hate it, but now ----

Hmm, interesting question. I think I have known I was frugal for many, many years... probably going back to when I was in my mid 20s. I remember that even though I was earning a pretty low salary back then, my bank account balance always seemed to consistently grow month after month. And it wasn't like I was trying to make it grow... it just did. For me, I think that's really the nature of frugality, i.e. being able to save without thinking about it or budgeting for it.

I would have to say in my early to mid 20's just after college. All of my friends were busy buying new gadgets, clothes, and cars, while I was busy learning about savings and investing. All of the people that used to call me cheap now tell me that they are jealous of me. Go figure...

I have always been fairly frugal. Even when I was single and earning a good salary, I would typically not order drinks out at a meal, I never had cable or even a TV for a long time.

However, I still could have done better. I had a car loan and a student loan for quite a while.

I enjoy paying less or finding a bargain! This along with saving, investing and avoiding debt has allowed me to be more successful than my peers. It also gives me considerably more flexibility.
