One at the time, 2 at a time, or the whole set. I bought used tires once when I hit a curb and messed up 2 tires and just bought 2 to replace. They were dirt cheap for being almost new. That was 7 years ago. It seems now used tires cost almost as much as new and are in horrible condition.

We always joke about this when we pass a place selling used tires. Sorry, but I value my safety too much to take a chance. Who knows why those tires ended up there? They might look okay but I'm sure there could be problems that aren't readily visible. Plus, it seems that the used tire places are only found in shady neighborhoods - not where I'm trusting anybody to work on my car.

Nope. And I would only do it if I were desperate (no money & gotta keep going to work!) or absolutely knew the seller and the history of the tires.
Someone has twice gotten decent used tires from my car. The first time was when I changed out the factory tires after not being pleased with their grip in the rain. The second was when our engine "blew up" when we'd only had new tires for about two months. Car was dead; tires were great.

I have had no problems buying used tires. Obviously I'd only buy a tire that had little use. I am a big believer in "barely used" goods.
When it's time to replace our tires we buy new (want them to last as long as possible). But if a tire *dies* prematurely, we buy used. Of course, I wouldn't buy a used tire from just anyone. I 100% value vehicle safety. |
