Affordable family vacation

I like to take my family to the Outer Bank, NC. I prefer not to stay at hotel because I can hang around my house if I want modern conveniences. Could someone recommend a campground that is close to the 4x4 Beach and tell me if there are beaches or areas with fresh water and bathroom accommodation. I have never been to the Outer Bank so I am not familiar with the area. I just want to do the 4x4 Beach and go camping for 5-7 days.

I don't have experience in the particular area you're looking at, but we've never gone wrong with using state parks.

A quick search for state parks on the Outer Banks showed a couple with camping - Hammocks Beach and Carolina Beach. Not sure if they're what you're looking for, but we've had great experiences with state parks across the country (simple accommodations with generally clean, decent bathrooms/showers and water.)

I hope you share what you end up doing, and how it turns out....thinking of going there someday ourselves. Good luck!

Yeah, I am going to Corolla Beach. I guess I'll call down to see what they have. It is possible that I'll stay at the hotel although I prefer not to. I'll check into some campground to see what they have as far as accommodations but privacy is a must when traveling with family. If it was just me, I'll crash in my camper.

Millions of families go camping with minimal gear and enjoy the challenge of doing things and entertaining themselves without all the modern conveniences that you have at home. That's the point of camping, challenges, coping skills and imagination

We usually rent a condo at OBX. Then. you have a full kitchen, can stay in and cook, etc. But, we are not campers. There are camp sites there.
If you really want to save money, i would just go to the local lake, river and camp.
