Exclamation Lawyers fee with taxes, two scenarios

Hello,

I had sought a lawyers services for which I was asked to pay 150+19.5$(taxes 13%) consultation fee = $169.5.

And Since I am going to retain their services I have to pay $1000 plus taxes minus the consultation fee.

So I was wondering,when I pay the 1000$, should I pay 1000-150 = 850+13%(taxes) = 850+110 = 960.5$

or 1000-169.5 = 830.5+13%(taxes) = 938.45

Thank you

It's the first one. Think of it as paying $1000 in total plus the taxes of 13% which is $1,130 so that is your total cost. You have already paid $169.50 so your total cost is $960.50.
