Oh my, they should go to Europe while they can! Once they buy a house, have a kid, etc. they won't be able to do the trip of a lifetime! They will never forget the trip, but a house will be there.

As a landlord I would have asked them if they were interested in the property before putting it on the market. The costs involved between tenants can be big enough to allow for a quick and easy sale ... even if a little lower.

As for buying under a deadline like that ... I agree with most the others. Don't force one's self into something like that. Besides, with the time taken before actually being able to close on a home these days ... they may be renting (or crashing) a month or two anyway.
