Question Is the FICO now 900?

I looked at my credit scores recently, and my credit monitoring website did a little revamping and now shows the grade level of my credit.

I thought 750-800 was the score to reach for, but now, they say it is 900, and my mid-600s (mainly due to my loan and credit card accounts continuously reducing available credit after I pay off a certain amount at a time) score was deplorable. Sigh. I was reach for a mid 700 score, but now, it seems like even that isn't good enough.

Has the ideal score always been 900 or so?

No, you probably didn't get an actual FICO score. It's probably one of the proprietary scores that the credit bureau's are all getting into. It's getting to be where you have to be really careful to be sure you're getting the right score.

FICO scores still range from 300-850. Anything outside of that is a clear indicator that it isn't a real FICO score.

All 3 companies need to report on same scale... meaning if one company gave you a 950 on scale of 1000 and other 2 gave you a 690 and 710 on a scale of 850 those 3 numbers cannot be averaged...

most banks will average the 3 scores together when they write score down on an application. Or they throw away high, throw away low, and report the median.

So read the credit report closely from all 3, the score you "have" is the average of all 3 or the median from all 3. If one score looks drastically different than the others, then look at that credit report in detail, and compare it to other 3 (are same accounts listed same way on all 3 reports?).

The place to get it is direct from FICO at myfico.com.

All three scores are within a 20 point deviation or so. It does seem that the more I pay off my credit cards, the more they still lower the limits, and the worse my credit looks---my credit has gone down, and I have not had any late or non payments reflected on my account.

I will check out myfico to get the right score.

My question is, does the FICO go to 900? I always thought that the 700s was great, and like 850 was perfect. Is this true? Does the fico change or increase due to the overall economy? What is the true max score of fico?

A while ago, my high 600s score was considered fair to good. Now, it is considered a D! Not cool at all.

From what I understand Fico is a average of all three so if all companies max is 850 your highest you can get is 850 correct. Shoot for 720-790 is a really good high average. Just got my FICO back at a 756 and got a stellar rate on my new home we just bought.

According to this month's Kiplinger's magazine, the 3 major credit bureaus have created a competitor called Vantage score. Scores range from 501 to 990. When you receive your score you will also receive a letter grade. Vantagescore tend to be more consistent than fico scores becuse it is owned by all three companies. You can get your vantagescore for $7.95 at Experian.com.

That's actually not true. There are a number of industry specific Fico scores that have ranges other than 300-850. For example, if you apply for an auto loan/lease, there may be a range of 250-900, so always be sure to look at the associated range.

Let me add that a 760 Fico score should be sufficient for all types of approvals...while an 800 Fico score may be helpful in receiving pricing discounts on mortgages and so forth. But you certainly don't need a 900 score...in fact 800 should get the job done and then some...

I know this is an old thread, but I found it whilst doing some google searching. What you got was probably a vantage score and not a FICO score as those scores do not go up that high.
