Now What?

So we installed our heat pumps last month. At halloween, it was pretty much finished, just the outside enclosure needed to be done. Not a big deal. The heat pumps appeared to be working.

So I paid the contractor and he said he'd swing by and just work outside for 30 minutes to install the enclosure of the pipes, a nice thing, but not necessity.

This happened the friday before Halloween. Then over the weekend, the heat pumps stopped working. It had been working, we saw it working, and it worked one night. Then the next day we turned it back on and it wasn't working.

I began to call the contractor and he didn't show up again until LAST wednesday 11-18-09. He came over, finished the enclosure and couldn't figure out the problem. Of course i paid him because it was "done" at the end of October, but it doesn't work! It stopped working a day after he "finished"

He said he'd be back the next day and NEVER showed up. I've left countless messages, and can't even do that because he said his "cell phone was being transferred and he was hasseling with the companies, thus the subscriber couldn't be reached."

So now what? Just give up on him and hire someone to come troubleshoot and go to small claims that he didn't finish the job?

That the job was to get it working for real? Arrgh. I hate contractors.

My DH wants thanksgiving to spend looking at it and figuring out if it's a small problem he can fix. If not do we pay someone else? And then go after the guy?

We have his ladder, tools, etc and locked them up in our basement. He appears to be coming back but when?

Doesn't the new equipment have some type of warranty? Call the company and get the name of another service person in your area certified to do warranty work for them.

I would not suggest that your husband do anything to it because doing so could void the warranty.

Unfortunately Sanyo heat pumps do not have service people. you have to hire a contractor like we did.

Do you need to hire a contractor even for repairs or routine service on the equipment? If that's the case, find another certified contractor in your area. Contact the company if you can't locate one. I would think they could provide a list. In fact, I would contact them to alert them to the problem with the guy who did your installation. They may be able to pressure him to come back and finish the job or lose the right to handle their systems.

Trying, will do it right now after I finish with the vet. Sigh.
