Government Credit Card Program
I am very skeptical about some calls I have gotten recently. Last night I get a call from a gal who says because of my good credit and history that I can change all my credit cards to a lifetime fixed rate of around 3%. Only criteria is that i needed to have at least a $3000 balance or more. Somehow we got disconnected on the phone so i didnt think much of it. Tonight i get another call from the same place from a guy. He says only criteria is that I need at least a $4000 balance on my cards. I told him I did then he wanted the 800 number off the back, the expiration date, my zip code, and then when he asked for the card number I stopped and would not give it to him. I told him i was skeptical and he said that was good and that i could thank the government for this program and he directed me to a credit rewards program website but I dont see anything on that site. He said it had to do with the stimulus package is how the program is in effect. He mentioned because of my good standing with all 3 credit unions that I qualified for this. He said there is no fee to be on the program and I would still make my payments to the same places I do now just the interest rate will be really low. So please tell me if anyone knows about this or if it is indeed a scam. He said they would be calling me back in a few days so i could have time to research it.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is. This sounds incredibly sketchy...

This does NOT sound good. Never give your credit card over the phone to someone you did not call yourself. And no, don't call them at their 800# either.

Should you or others get these calls, ask for the persons name and phone number. Watch how fast they disconnect! Write a note to your Congressman, ask them to look into this 'program.'

Wow - what a scam.
The items they are asking you for are the typical security measures to use your card. Ever have to key in your zip code at the gas pump when using your cc? Scam artists have machines to duplicate your credit card. They just need the info the caller was asking for.
