I hate getting mail from my mortgage company this time of the year. Usually it talking about my monthly payment going up and this year was not different. Both taxes and our home insurance went up so does my mortgage payment. This year by $68. I was paying an extra $50 a motnh so my budget won't take that much of a hit but still gets my goat.
Just a vent. |

Mine went down $3.00. Do you have your taxes and house insurance on your mortgage? If so, see if you can bring down your house mortgage. Some people tell me that you can go down and see if you can get your taxes lowered. Never tried. I should to see if it would help, but when trying to fight with the city about taxes I feel you may end up talking to the wall.

I meant to say see if you can bring down your house insurance or see if you can get a better deal on your house insurance somewhere else. This may help lower your house mortgage if you do have your house insurance included in your mortgage.

Doesn't everyone's property taxes go up every year? I assumed they did. They sure do here in CA

My house assessed value is $155k but my next door neighbors who have the same exact style of house plus same land sold their for $340k last fall. I don't know about going to get it assessed. We shopped around for home owners last years when ours went up $400 for the year but we are still paying on the cheaper side.

Yes you can protest! One thing to remember is you want your house valued low if you plan on staying but if you want to sale you want it appraised higher KWIM.
I never have protested my taxes but my mom & dad used to do it every years & it did help them!! I have thought about protesting & telling them look at my house it looks horrible its not worth that much LOL!! I have though switched insurance companies to help with the prices of my mortgage |

Our house is no great shakes either (old fixer upper still in need of fixing up), but we do have one of the larger lots in the neighborhood -- so, we pay accordingly. And yes, our taxes go up every year too -- ouch!
