Our weekend costly mistake
We have had a glass top stove since we bought our house 8 years ago. I have hated it. This weekend we got to get rid of it. During the night one of our plates that was over the stove smashed into the top and smashed the top in several pieces. Can't use it that way... so off for a new stove.
We actually pulled out the credit card for the first time in atleast 2-3 years since I really didn't have the extra in emergency fund right now. However I hope to pay it off within 2-3 months. Argh.

Re: Our weekend costly mistake
Hmmm, are you sure you didn't "sleepwalk" and purposely make the plate fall on it? Or perhaps you have ESP and "willed" the plate to fall?
At least you are using your credit card smartly and for a legitimate emergency. I have no doubt that you'll have that paid off as you say.
So what time is dinner???

James that is what hubby said to me too. LOL
See I totally agree- however they are pretty but a total PITA to keep clean. They are expensive stoves about $1500 but not worth it.
Trying to get use to my new stove all digital for cooking, it has a great timer etc.
I have one commisson source that I regularly get about $150 a month from and that check will focus on paying that off. I hate not being debt free again.

Re: Our weekend costly mistake
Is the new one self-cleaning? When we first bought our house 4.5 years ago (an old fixer-upper), we needed to replace the existing stove. All our money had just been sunk into the house, the closing costs and so on, so we were particularly money-minded at the time. Stoically, I opted out of the self-cleaning feature, to save money of course (and have always sort of regretted that, heh....)

My girlfriend almost burned down her house with a self-cleaning oven.
I've never used that feature on my stove because I didn't want to pay for the energy it would costs.

Re: Our weekend costly mistake
Sorry to hear about the timing, but it seems the replacement was a good thing that would have been done eventually anyway. It seems like you have thought it out well and you have a plan to pay off the credit card. I'm sure that you will be back to credit card debt free before long.

Re: Our weekend costly mistake
It may not be so bad that you used your credit card. When I was going thru my divorce, my attorney told me it was GOOD to use a credit card once a year, and pay it off the next month. Said that showed I still had good credit sense. If you havent used it in 2-3 years, I would think the same would apply to you.
