Hello, I have been reading along but this is my first post.
It look's like my husband may lose his job or get his hours cut back. I am currently expecting our first child so I am worried about finances. I was looking into getting assistance from WIC but my husband is worried about some kind of repercussion of receiving government assistance. For example, claiming it on your taxes or it looking bad on your credit or anything like that. Can you tell me what happens when you receive government assisstance or more specifically if you receive help from WIC? Thanks! |

Here is the Federal website index (for Women, Infants, Children) that may help:
Topics A to Z I would encourage you to call your local toll-free number to find out the answers to your tax ramifications/financial ramifications if you are considering it: WIC - Toll Free Numbers |

Let us know what you find out. I would think there wouldn't be tax issues because for most people that would compound the financial situation.

Don't worry at all! We have WIC and Food Stamps and it doesn't affect anything else. The only "bad" part about it is having to tell them every time your income or living arrangements change. |

Well we own our home and plan on living here a long time.
I saw on WIC that you have to have nutritional needs in order to qualify so I doubt I will get it considering I am healthy.... I don't know if we qualify for any other kind of assistance. |

I wouldn't pass this up to be honest. I know in Tennessee it saved us hundreds of dollars. Especially if you decide to bottle feed because formula (here) is $70 per can, and you generally use about 8 cans a month or so (especially as the child gets older as they require more). I couldn't have afforded everything without it. And they provide great foods while you're pregnant to keep you healthy. There is no reason not to do this, for sure! ![]() |

Your nutritional need is pregnancy. and then your child will qualify until he or she is 5 I think. so you will qualify as long as you do financially. It in no way affects your credit score, rating or your taxes. The only thing it might do for your taxes is by confirming you have low income. then you will probably qualify for earned income credit when the child is born. No one otherwise even needs to know. You do as said have to report a lot of info to the assistance people though. There is nothing wrong with having to use assistance. It is there to help when times are tough. I was on it until my daughter was 5 and then later in life I used the Kid Kare health portion for her when I had no insurance. Good Luck.
