Default Missed credit card payment

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but the credit card payment I had sealed in the envelope got misplaced and was never sent. That means my payment was late by about 15 days. I've never missed a payment before this and I'm afraid it will really hurt my credit. Are there any actions I should take?

Prayer works for me , actually I have a bad habit of setting something for the mail, and then finding it several weeks later. So far there has never been any bad marks on my Husbands credit report. Prolly cause it is like once a year that they actually go in late. So I put up a silent prayer when I pay bills and everytime I think of it, so far it has worked.

I once almost got my phone shut off from losing a bill too. GEt the feeling I am so not good at this stuff?

I would simply call the company. If this is not a regular occurence, they are likely to remove any charges and record of the late payment. I think this has happened to us all... but I have NEVER had to pay the late fee. So many of these companies are just desperate to keep clients.

If the rep you talk to can't or won't do it, ask for their manager. Keep it going...

Good luck!

It won't hurt your credit score until the payment is 30 days late. Which means u need to get it to them before the next payment due date.

I would call them anyways. Maybe they would wave the late payment fee. Never hurts to ask.

Call them and let them know the payment is on the way. Hopefully you are not on a promotional rate because then your interest rate may go up.

Have you thought about online bill pay? It has been a lifesaver for me over the years.

Thank you. I was able to get hold of the company and explained what happened. They ended up waiving the late fee and returning the interest rate to the normal level.

I would encourage you to consider online bill paying. I just switched to it at the beginning of this year and it is wonderful! My bank is able to tell me "the worst case scenario" of when my payment will be received by the company, I have a confirmation number for each payment transaction, and I can schedule my payment of bills twice a month (related to my pay periods). No more writing checks, mailing things, or forgetting to mail them!
