Default $250 Tax Score

Once a month I make a trip to our local GoodWill store with stuff that we no longer need or use. People in my neighborhood have come to know that I make this trip and if they have some stuff to donate, they'll drop it by to save themselves a trip to Goodwill.

I had my trip this morning and went through the price guide for donating everything and it added up to over $250 that I can deduct from my taxes. It's too bad that I can't do it for 2004, but it is a great start for 2005.

CHECK YOUR STATE LAW

I work for a local non-profit, and in my state, onlt $200 is tax deductable on your state taxes.. $250 if you are donating to a school.

(however I would not let this number determine your giving for the entire year!)

Yes, you would have to check if it is deductible on the state taxes (I'm fine where I live), but there isn't a problem with federal taxes.

I was finally going thru my paper monster, and I found three or four reciepts from the good will. I so hope to keep them in the right place this year instead of the frantic hurry to find stff in January. I didn't even know it was possible to deduct them from the state, I only used them for the federal before
