I worry as my industry is based on people buying, selling and refinancing homes. I am great right now as everyone in the country is trying to refi their home at a lower rate. What the future holds, with inflation and high interest rates, scares the living crap out of me. I am saving all my pennies for the worst that may come in my industry over the next few years.

The company I work for has actually been doing better, which is funny because it has a lot to do with building. I do see it around me though and it does stress me out. Anyone that you know who is about to retire that has lost a good chunk of money, my parent's companies have been doing lay-offs, or down-sizing property. I'll tell you what.. I'm glad I have the job I do, but that's the only thing that's holding me together, otherwise, I'd be a wreck.

As long as I have my job I'll be OK but alas there are no guarantees in life. I do have 1 year worth of funds in my savings account but I also know some people that haven't found work for over 5-7 months now. Besides, it sucks to have to raid the savings and start over again.

I am a little concerned. I feel secure in my job, but it is in the oil and gas business, so anything could happen. My boyfriend and I are getting married in July, and he works for a state university here in Oklahoma so he is also secure in his job. We have some credit card debt from college, but other than that things aren't too bad. I think that we would be able to downsize all that we needed to if we ever had to make ends meet.

Yes, I worry, but objectively I'm in a better spot than many and should relax. It's hard to stay calm when every day delivers more bad news.

My high wage job is secured with a government contract in place until the end of 2010, my mortgage is cleap and expenses are low, I have only $6k of consumer debt between my car and student loan (will knock off both of those by June), and there is a six month reserve of cash in the bank.

So, yeah. I think I'm okay but my mental state has definitely been dragged down, if only because of empathy for all the people affected. I have a hard time being cheerful or optimistic, which is usually my default state.
