home business opportunity - yippee!!

My cousin and I are constantly trying to find ways to make money out of our cooking abilities (modesty aside, we are both really great cooks!)...well, there was a little corner store near my house that was selling pupusas and tamales on the weekends, but, the owner recently went to live in the US, so now the store is closed...we are planning to take over the pupusas/tamales thing and add shrimp cocktails to our menu, starting this weekend!!...wish us luck!

Well....turns out it wasn't true about the corner store closing...so we sort of chickened this weekend and didn't do the whole stuff...we just sold some tamales...still, we invested $19 and got $27, so we have $4 profit each!...it's a start!!...

So is the store still open and now your competition? Did you find a new place to set up? Are you going to continue to try this or was it a one time effort?

What happened? Did the person decide not to leave or did someone else take over? I'm just curious on what happened.

I think it's great that you are giving it a go. I bet both of you are busy again this week getting everything ready. Please keep us up to date on how everything is going.

ha,ha! what happened was, while Mom was at the house, she kept sending the nanny out to buy ice cream pops - she wasn't eating any "real food", so my sister told the nanny to tell my Mom that the store had closed....my Mom told me, and my niece, who had believed the story, confirmed it!!

LOL. So when your business becomes a great success, you will have to thank you mom for eating ice cream pops!

well...we are starting to build a clientele....we have recovered the initial investment ($10 each) and, we have even made a small profit...(right now, we still have to sell about $11 worth of tamales, but that would be all profit if we sell them...) we have discovered that the corn tamales are the ones that sell best, and the sugar ones are the ones that sell the least, so next week, we will only make 10 sugar ones and will make more corn ones (in case you are wondering, we have 4 types: chicken (salty), chicken (sugar), chipilin and cheese (chipilin is, I assume, the native name for it, it's some kind of green leaf, very tasty!) and corn ones....we really haven't had the time to do the taco thing...

Wow that sounds great! I love the fact that you are already learning how to control your "inventory" so to speak. If your product is good, you will get more customers through word of mouth. If things really get going you may want to look at ways to encourage your customers to spread the good word to others by offering them a discount on a future purchase or whatever. It sounds like you're both creative so I'm sure you'll come up with something.

Good luck!
