Default credit card error on payoff date

We made a large purchase last fall knowing we could have it paid off by the promotion date (36 months). We pay it off by then, no interest.

My error was not checking the bill until months later and I realized they had the wrong promotion date down (18 months). I called in and the woman I talked to said she would fix it.

Next month, the majority of the bill was alloted to the corrected pay off date but a small amount was still under the 18 month pay off date.

I call in again and again was reassured that it would be taken care of.

This month, they have mover even more to the 18month payoff date.

I started reading the fine print and they say to write in within 60 days of the error being noticed with the details why I think it is wrong. I noticed the original error long after that.

How should I properly handle this? Can I distribute extra money (beyond the minimum payment) to this earlier payoff date? I want to take care of this as soon as possible.

I emailed them and they told me to give it one more cycle to reflect on my statement. I really hope to get this figured out so that it works within my payoff plan. Normally it would not be an issue but we had an emergency vet bill that we were able to get deferred interest on so I am getting that paid off first since the promo date expires first.

These mistakes are common. Never trust that something will be done until it is done. Call every day until you are satisfied that the correction has occured.

I've learned not to do these deals unless prepaired to payoff immediatly. I would rather just pay cash than have the hassles that come with these offer mistakes. Be persistant and request a managers written assurance that your request will be rectified.

Thank you for your reply. I was afraid of that. I am checking each statement that comes in and taking care of things. If I did not have the vet bill, it would be paid off asap.

I find it really sad that companies do this on purpose (I am guessing) in order to make money back quicker. It has taught me to be on top of my statements to make sure there are no errors.

I'm glad you had that fixed. Zero interest its the way to go unless you use cash. We bought our furnitures this way when we bought our brand new house 5 years ago. Paid it off ($8400 worth) less than 1 year 18 months promo.

I think the CC companies make these types of mistakes on purpose. I had an experience with discover card where we paid off the balance of a 0% promotion 1 month before it was due and was assessed a finance charge. I called to inquire about it and they took it off of the bill.
