Default Cheaper to buy than to rent

The Abbey published a study recently that suggested it is on average £10,000 cheaper to buy a house in Britain than it is to rent over a typical 25 year period. Those in the South East could save on average £60,000 with those in the East of Scotland netting a whopping £80,000.

Cheaper now to buy a house than to rent one | Mutual Points

Surprising stuff. Looks like a good time to buy. Are there similar studies in America?
