Default Essential to your well being?

Do any of you have spending habits that you consider essential to your well being regardless of the cost? I probably spend ~$500/month during golfing season (5-6 months out of the year). I know its a lot of $$$ but it's something that my wife and I do together. I really don't know what I would do with my time otherwise. Yet, I do feel guilty about the $$$ spent.

I know how it is to be addicted to golf. I ended my membership to a club I've been at for 8 years. Once I have fully gotten a handle on my financial future, I intend to go back.

We all need something that gives us contentment, even something as frustrating as golf. If your seeing to your financial health first, enjoy it. ( If that's even possible)

Funny that mine is golf also. I just finished nine. We live on the course that we belong to, so I am able to walk out and play nine a few times a week. My wife plays also. We drop a lot of money a month on the club bill. Good thing the food isn't very good, so we just end up paying for the minimum requirement and don't eat there very often.

I'd have to say vacations, particularly our Disney trips, but all travel. It is something we really enjoy doing together as a family. We almost always do budget travel, but even then, spend what many would consider a substantial amount of money.

And it isn't just the big week-long travel journeys. Even day trips would qualify. Just today, we spent the day in Seaside Heights. Between playing in the arcade, food, gas and parking, we probably spent nearly $150 for 5-6 hours. That's a lot of money, but it would be low on my list of things to give up if money became an issue.

Personally, I think it was money well spent. It's not like you purchased clothes. I don't think it's a bad thing when disposable income is spent on quality time with your family or significant other. As for me, golf is the one of the few things my wife and I have in common.

We've been going there for years but have never stayed over. We always just go for the day. We aren't beach people so we're happy to go down for a few hours, play in the arcade, have lunch and walk around a bit. When DD was young, we'd do the kiddie rides on the pier, but we haven't done rides for a while. We belong to the club at Coin Castle. They do special promotions throughout the year, so we go down any time. Actually, we rarely go down during the summer. You're more likely to find us down there when everything is shuttered for the season.

My car has to have a working air conditioner!

I don't eat 'plastic' cheese or anything but Hellman's mayo if I can at all avoid it, so I'll pay extra for these items.

Oh, and I love to travel. I'll compromise on most anything but the other three so that we have funds to travel.

Eating a variety of food. Whether I make it or someone else does. Eating the same thing all the time would be cheaper, but this is something I can't be stingy on. I love variety and I love the experience of eating.

For me, its my skin care. I use Clinique and although I spend like $60+ in one time there, the stuff lasts me for a year.

Other than that we aren't really in a position right now to splurge. Although I guess we have splurged on our home - I love this place - so that is probably where we've put more of our money towards our well being.

Travel, healthy tasty vegan food, and TV.

I would hope I could cut them out without ruining my outlook on life, but I'd definitely grumble and miss them for awhile!

When I was single and lived by myself, playing sand volleyball, eating out, and going to bars with my friends was pretty much a necessity for my mental well being. I couldn't have lived that far away from all family (8 hours) without my friends, and that was soooo fun. I miss it (sometimes). And I miss them.
