Default What Temp is your house at in the summer?

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I was curious to find out what temperature everyone keeps their house at during the summer. Its too hot here to keep the windows open (96 and counting), so I have it set at 78 right now, 75 at night since the upstairs is a bit hotter. I use the ceiling fan for whatever room I'm in at the time. Please share what temp you use.

It is 91 outside and my current temp is 83 because we don't have air. DH is installing the one in our bedroom and it will be set to 74 one hour before we go to bed.

Usually 76 when we are all out during the day. Stays at 76 or 75 if we're home and on the first floor. About 30-60 minutes before bedtime, I lower it to 74 or 73 at most to cool off the 2nd floor.

80 and it's 98 outside. Both night and day. Mostly for DH because he can't stand the humidity.

We sleep on our 3rd floor and I'd be fine but DH is dying! Feels like home.

Generally 78 degrees during the day...we are home. At night we drop to 74 to cool off the upstairs. We wouldn't have to drop so low if we could sleep on the lower level!!

My DH can handle the natural chill (in late fall or winter), but not the artificial one . So, if our AC is set below 80, he starts sneezing and gets runny nose and starts complaining how cold it is. Hense the temp never goes below 80 in our house. At night after cooling to 80, we set the termostat at 81 or 82. But never above 83 or I'd start complaining

I like 80; dh prefers 78. So he usually flips it on 78 and I set it to 80 in the evening (when it starts to cool off anyway).

We flip it on the air upstairs a few minutes before naptime and bedtime. Usually set it to 80 and turn it off once it gets there. Usually it cools off at night so it's no biggie. If we get it to 80 before bed, it will stay there. On the few crazy heat wave days we may set it to 83 over night or get out the fans.

We don't come from HOT/AC country so we can tolerate a little more heat. We never had AC growing up, we just sweated on the occasional hot day. So I find we set our heat tolerance is a little higher.

It usually is well into the high 90s/100s most of summer, so 80 is also quite refreshing in comparison to stepping outside.

MM, it's the first time I noticed you mention not being an American (I might have missed it since I'm fairly new on this board). What country (-ies) are you from? I'm just curious and if you prefer not to divulge this, it's fine too.

Here lately it's been 95+ outside so since we both work, I turn the AC off while we're gone throughout the day and turn it on to 75-76 when we get home. DH complains since he gets home before I do and he can't stand the house being hot/stuffy. I'd bought a programable thermostat on sale at Home Depot a couple of months ago....I told him if he was mad, he could get offa his butt and install that sucker so it could start cooling the house off 30 mins before he got home. I just can't justify paying for the house to be cool while we're not there

We have not turned ours on this year. We are using fans instead. Our electric company jacked up their rates April 1, so we are leaving it off. Our house has trees around it, tall windows, and ceiling fans and that helps a lot.

Right now it is at 78.

I used to like the AC at 72-74 and would set it at 76 for savings, but a couple years ago I suddenly (during summer) became cold natured. Now, I think I'd like it at about 80, but my husband sweats while just sitting still at that temp. I'm home all day, he is home most days during the summer, so we have constant negotiation and I have a shawl (and a coat!) nearby. At night we don't really lower the temp, but close all vents except the ones to upstairs and the one nearest the thermostat. That way we don't cool the bedrooms all day when no one is there. However, I am still sleeping under two quilts with the AC.

We tend to set the A/C at 80-82. For some reason, low A/C temps make me ache though I can tolerate the lower temperatures if they are natural. We do need it cooler at night when we are trying to sleep but usually it cools down enough for us to open a window.

At the moment, no A/C, its only been getting into the 80's so it cools down enough at night just to use natural cooling.

75 or 76 on the main floor. If we kept it any warmer, the upstairs would be miserable at night!

We have it set at 76 degrees. Try to open windows instead of using the A/C but the 100 degree heat makes that near unbearable.

My wife and I don't have central air, so the ambient temperature is our temperature. We do have a window unit for the bedroom, but we only use that on the really humid nights. Other than that our ceiling fan does wonders, except when our 85lb lab decides she needs to sleep with us. =)

I hate using air conditioning, but it's been in the upper 90s for 6 days now so it is on. 78 degrees, and my kids complain, but I tell them it's either that or I turn it off. It is not cold but it is also not humid in here now. It's supposed to be in the 80s later this week so I'll turn it off and use ceiling fans and the attic fan at night.
The AC gives me a sinus headache-anyone else have that problem?

78 degrees here. It is currently in the 90's and the humidity is on the rise. Ahhhhhhhhhh, Florida.

usually 80, but not usually on this early, but this year being pregnant, I just couldn't take it, so I wussed out, Ihave no idea what it is set at, but I am hot...soon as the company leaves we will start weaning ourselves back to 80 for the year.

We use a fan in every room we are in. and when it really feels too hot, we walk outside, anything is better than that!
