never lived anywhere with central a/c. Lately during this horrible heat wave (makes me wonder how anyone could live in the south at these unbearable temps) I broke out the window unit.

I had the bedroom set at 71 at night, but that was only over hte last few days. If the weather cools down, I probably wont need the unit again.

78. And it's awesome! for years we didn't run the A/C. Even though we lived in New Orleans and it was 100 plus and humid outside. It was just too expensive to run in our 135 year old house!

We didn't run it in our 1950s ranch the first two summers either, because we had an old AC. But now we have a high efficiency geothermal system that takes some of the guilt out of running the air. Gotta think about the polar bears, after all...

Well, I'll be the odd duck here and confess that we keep it at 73 during the day (I'm home all day) and 68 at night.

I'm just not comfortable at anything higher. I can't do it, especially at night when I'm trying to sleep. I'll push myself to deal with 73 during the day, but it's hotter than I'd like.

I guess everything evens up. We rarely turn our heat above 65 all winter, and that's only for company.

I keep the house at 80 when I'm home.

Without AC the humidity is hard to handle.

80 during the day (if we are home) ... 85 at night (the bedroom stays a few degrees cooler and we have a ceiling fan right over the bed). If we are not home during the day, we just leave a window open and the fans running for the dog. We open a window in the AM and try to go as long as we can stand it before turning the AC on ... Usually sometime between noon and 2pm during the current heat wave here in TX.

When we lived in the Pacific Northwest we never had AC.

It is hot and humid here now. Our AC can't run well below around 77 or 78 at this time of year. Later on in the summer, I'll have to run it about 80 in the afternoon. At night, Hubby has begun to like it cooler so we run it about 73 or 74 at night. The unit can handle it at night much better. Later in the summer, we'll probably have to adjust that upwards a degree or two, also. We are going to have to replace this unit in the next couple of years.

I currently have mine turned off due to some recent mild weather, but I keep it set between 78 and 80 degrees. While its off I'm just using fans to circulate the air and have a nice breeze. At 80 degrees it doesn't run very much even on days in the 90s. I'll be interested to see this month's electric bill.

Same here. Plus, we keep the ceiling fans in the living room and our bedroom on.

If I'm at home it's usually not on. I just open up all the windows and occasionally the front door to allow air in. If I'm gone or at night I set it to 74. This may sound weird, but I swear my cat starts to freak out if it's any higher.

74 in Texas. I live in an apartment complex with another apartment above me, and my electric bills are surprisingly low due to (I assume) excellent insulation in the building.

No central air here so the temp is what it is! We do have a window unit that we use on the rare days that it gets into the 90's. Our house is 150 years old, and we really don't see the need to install central air.

Wow really 80? Yikes that seems so hot. We usually have ours at 76 during the day(only because I'm trying to conserve, would do 72 otherwise) and 73 at night. But what i've been doing is getting up in the morning shutting the windows and just keep the house all closed up all day...my temp will start to climb to 75 by night and then I'll flip the air on. I've also gotten a tension rod and hung a sheet on it and put it at the top of the stairs. You wouldn't believe how that keeps the upstairs cooler because it keeps the cold air from falling back down the steps and the hot air from coming up. Before I started using the sheet we'd have to put the air down to 68 at night to get it cool upstairs...try it
