Commute is 30 miles each way. It is usually 60 -70 minutes each way or 120-140 minutes a day.
Is your commute from 'door to door'? Yours probably is the longest commute on this thread. But it's still OK. My former boss works in NYC. He said it takes him 2-2.5 hours ONE WAY to come to his office. He takes a train as far as I recall.

I envy people whose commute is less than 20 min/one way. When we bought a house, only DH worked at the time, hense his short commute (25min including DD's drop-off at her daycare). It will stay this way for another 5-6 years, unless something happens with my and/or his job. Then we might look for another house.

We live in Kiel, Wisconsin. DH works in Manitowoc, I work in Sheboygan, so opposite directions. My commute is 38 miles=~35 minutes one way, his is 20 miles ~25 minutes one way. I work from home 1 or 2 days a week, so that helps with the commute and gas.

Where we live it is pretty rural, a bunch of tiny towns sprawled out along the countryside between 2 somewhat larger cities (~30,000 people).

I drive a 2004 vibe and DH drives a 2003 ford focus. We spend about 250 dollars a month on gas.

We live in north central Kansas, where my DH farms, and I work in south central/south east Kansas.

I work 162 miles from our house. I leave Monday mornings and go back home Thursday nights, after 4 10 hour days. That commute is 2.5 hours. When I am down here at work, I live in the house I am trying to fix up and sell, but I haven't gotten any offers on it yet. That commute is 15 minutes. I drive a F-150 pickup that gets about 17 mpg which I still owe money on until next October. He drives various Ford pickups, depending on if he has to haul something that day, get fuel for the tractors, work on fence, etc. We have three farm pickups (we bought one for $450, one for $1300 and one for ~$2500 all paid for but falling apart) which he uses depending on the job he has to do that day. We have farm ground 8 miles south of our house and 8 miles north of our house. We are planning on moving to the south farm after we get the house fixed up.

I could work from home but my boss won't let me. I tried to get a job closer to home, and even got an offer. But it was for $40,000 less than what I am making now, so even with gas so high, it isn't THAT high. And my sister was surprised that I was offered something that high, because she has friends in the same field as me and they are getting offers for $20,000 less than that! I'm still looking for a telecommuting job.

We just put in new fuel injectors in the tractor, so now, instead of using 2 gallons of diesel per acre to plant, it takes 1! Awesome! I am getting a chip to put in mine that is advertised to make my 17 mpg go to 25 mpg. It is expensive, but will pay for itself in 6 months with gas at $3.50 (when I figured it out last).

I'm lucky... my commute to work is me going downstairs into the home office. And I can take my job wherever I go, I originally had it in California and when I relocated to Virginia it allowed me to keep the same job.

We live in the midsouth.

Hubster drives an automatic '05 Dodge Neon. He commutes one way - 18 minutes to work which is 14 miles away via highway. We commute one way 17 minutes to church which is 9 miles away via city-streets. We usually get by w/a single tank of gas for this family car each week unless we do something out of the ordinary which is very seldom.

My standard '01 Dodge Ram truck normally decorates the drive-way. I think I've taken it out once in June and maybe went somewhere in it twice in May. Normally I hitch a ride w/my kids to do my errands and work when they are going out anyway.

My closest booth for my junque' dealing is about 15 minutes away and I visit it weekly usually in FrugalSon's truck after I drop him at work. And the other booth is an hour and a half away, apprx. 90 miles. It's across the road from my mother's house so I combine business & pleasure on that trip which usually occurs once a month and on that trip we usually switch out and I take the car and he drives the truck to work.

-Rockford, IL
-Across the street, quite literally.
-I walk- unless there is lightning, in which case I drive or call security to pick me up (Hey, they're out there anyway, they might as well do something useful!)
-At most, if traffic is heavy, it takes me 7 minutes to walk from my door to the time clock (no spouse).

I purposefully found an apartment as close to my job as possible. Mainly because I work full time at night and go to school full time during the day. I figured this decreased commute time would enable me to sleep just that much longer. And now I have the extra added bonus of saving tons on gas.

Where do you live? McKinney, TX (Northern Suburb of Dallas TX)

- What transportation means do you use to get to/from work? 2007 Honda Accord, 4-Cylinder

- How far away is your workplace? 37 miles from my garage to the parking garage.

- How much time on average do you spend to get to your job and back? On average about an hour each way. Depending on when I leave, that can be cut down to 50 minutes. On the flip side, it can easily be an hour and half each way as well.

I feel pretty lucky that in my new job, I can work out of the home if I want. I resisted doing that for several months as I wasn't sure how I would do. With gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon recently, I couldn't keep doing it if I did not have to. So now I work around 3 days a week at home, and drive into the office two days a week, a pretty good compromise. So far, I have been pretty productive working from home.

I am new here, and I thought this would be a good first post! So here goes.

- Where do you live?

Little Rock, AR

- What transportation means do you and your spouse use to get to/from work?

I dont drive my POV to work (I Fly to location, then drive a rental, company pays for both). My wife drives her 2005 Grand Prix 6cyl car. Her car gets around 22-24 mpg city, so I figure she spends around $25 a week on gas to drive to work on. (There is no reliable/safe public transport here)

- How far away are your workplaces?

Me : Depends
Wife : 7 miles

- How much time on average do you and your spouse spend to get to your jobs and back?

My travel time depends on what part of the country/world that I am traveling to. My wife's travel time is around 10min (approx 8 miles)

I live a little more than a mile from my office.

Most days I walk to and from work. The exercise is useful, and the price can't be beat.

- Where do you live? (city/state or if you don't to disclose your city, state is OK).
Grand Junction, Colorado
- What transportation means do you and your spouse use to get to/from work?
I drive to clients homes but work from home, mostly.
- How far away are your workplaces?
I charge mileage for anything over 10 miles away. Currently, my client is about 3 miles away.
- How much time on average do you and your spouse spend to get to your jobs and back?
It takes me about 15 minutes round trip.

I really don't like to drive. My current client is for half hour sessions and I'm doing my best to entice them to have the sessions in my home. If it weren't for appearances I'd ride my bike and use a backpack, but I want them to pay my handsome rates, so I have to look like I deserve them.

I'll start .
- Charlotte, NC;
- Both drive cars to work;
- My job is 17 miles away from our house and DH's - maybe 7-8 miles away;
- DD's daycare is between the house and DH's work. With the daycare included, it takes him 20-25min one way. For me, it takes 35-40min. one way, but it's a different story if there's an accident on the highway.

What about you?
-Valdosta, GA
-we drive suv/small pick up
-our workplaces are about 30 miles away (opposite directions)
-takes us between about an hour there and back

Average is 15-20 minutes each way. Although it is not uncommon on Friday afternoons to take 45 minutes to go 5 miles. One day last month I calculated my average speed from office to home to be less than 7 mph ... I was not a happy person that day.

I am no longer working 2.5 hours way from home. I got laid off and found a new job an hour away, except on Wednesdays when the commute is from the bedroom to the (home) office The new job pays about $30,000 less, but I love it.

I still have the same pickup, paid off last October. It has 188,000 miles on it, but I just got a tune up last week and it is running like new! DH got rid of the $400 pickup and we picked up a $3000 pickup which we still owe $900 on...to his Grandma who loaned us the money with no interest. We are paying $300 a month to her.

I live just north of Kansas City, MO and work just west of Kansas City, KS. It's 47 miles from my garage to the parking lot, usually takes just under an hour one way depending on the time of day. I drive an 06 Ford Fusion, and average just over 30 mpg and gas is $2.50 a gallon, so $8 a day in gas. I only work 3 days a week but am salaried.
