In my opinion, yes you do. Legally doubt it. Prolly depends on the state/country.

Legally you would not be responsible for those debts unless something was written into a prenuptual agreement saying that you were.
Just a bit of personal advice - think long and hard before taking the marriage step with someone with large debts. Getting married isn't going to change his / her current spending habits and even if you aren't resposible for the prior debts, any that accumulate while you're married will be half your responsibility even if they are all from your partner. |
