No, no implication that anyone is cheating.....

I'm just wondering what values people are using to calculate the percents listed. I believe earlier posts were referencing AGI, however I don't think that is what TurboTax uses in the calculation.

As far as I can tell my effective tax rate is 21.5% if I take line 63 (total tax) divided by line 43 (taxable income) from the 1040.

However, my percent is 17% if I take line 63 (total tax) divided by line 37 (adjusted gross income).

Yep - that is the calculation I used. (line 37)/(line 63), which gave me 15%.
If I use (line 37)/(line 43), I get 18.5%.
