Default They raised my credit limit

on the card I am working to pay off. It is in little tiny peices in the bottom of my purse in a baggie. I got the letter on black Friday. What an evil cruel trick. give me strength.

Uht-oh, is that tempting to you? I don't even know what the limits are on my cards. It has no effect on how much I charge with them. Be strong, if strength is what you need!

the thing saving me now is that the card is shredded. I am just paying it off. I hadn't thought about it in months until this......

I had one recently raise my limit, after when I had an emergency they wouldn't raise it to cover the guesstimate on a repair I needed immediatly WTH?

They just want ya to bury yourself further during the holidays that's all.

Since you aren't using the card anymore, the limit should be of no significance. Besides, having a higher limit actually may help your credit score because it lowers your utilization ratio.

what's that thing doing in a plastic baggie in your purse???????

get it out of there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bury it, burn it, throw it away... get it away from you! there is no need on earth for you to even see or think about it or the account number associated with it.

we cut up all of our cards one year ago this coming thursday. throw it away... you dont need it, and seeing it is just a temptation and a blight on our choice to become financially free. and its true - raising the limit is a good thing on your credit score because it decreases your utilization ratio.

good luck!

An incresed limit means you have better spending power and a stronger credit rating. But don't abuse this privilege!!

irmanator, the same thing happened to me. Something told me to check the account online today on the card that I'm paying off and by-doggit, they increased the credit limit. I started a Halleluiah shout. Not because I had more money to spend but because it meant that I'm doing a great job managing my debt and paying MORE than the minimum balance but also, along with my cash reserve for emergencies, I have additional space on my card for an "OH MY" emergency. So congratulations to us!!!! DON'T SPEND IT!!!!!!!!!

At the very least don't carry the card around with you. Stick it in a drawer somewhere and forget about it.

This happened to me as well. I am currently being vigilant about paying down my credit cards and have become kind of OCD about it. I check them every other day. On black friday, I got online and had noticed they raised my limit $3,000. I hate credit card companies.

Personally I prefer my credit card companies to raise my limits.
Why?
- It means I'm using credit wisely
- It means I've started or have better control over my spending
- It means my utilization ration is smaller
- It means I have more money I can borrow on for short term things when it can help

We used to use just 1 credit card for all our spending (Chase PerfectCard). Now, we'll be using 2 cards, since my wife applied for and received a Chase Freedom card. Imagine a homemaker (who has no income themselves) getting a new credit line of $10,000. Yes we did put down household income, but she is listed as the primary on the card.
