Providian payment charged to my friend's account?!!
Never use Providian!!
One of my girlfriends, who lives a few hours away so I only see her about 3x a year, called me last week and said that there was a charge on her Bank of America account to Providian/Washington Mutual for $69 under my name.......what??!!
I had called Providian a few days earlier ( June 22) and made a payment of $69 by phone, from my checking account ( through an automated system) and also got a confirmation number.
Once my friend called and told me the charge on her account, I checked my bank account and the payment I had made over the phone never showed-up on my bank statement.
I have NO IDEA how this happened. She is completly dumbfounded as well, she also told me she just opened a new checking account with Bank of America a few weeks ago, so no one has had accesss to her account.
We are also confused as to why a charge under my name would be allowed on her account?
I called Providian and of course got the run around. The lady from Providian did confirm that they had recieved a payment of $69 on June 26 towards my account. The Providian lady said that there was 2 accounts or methods of payment on my Providian account, one was my bank account, the other was Bank of America.
How in the world did this happen??
She said that the payment of $69 was from the Bank of America account.
I asked her how could this have happened? when did the bank of Am. get added to my account? I don't even have a bank of amercia account!
She had no answers for me except to appoligize and just wanted to move forward with transfering the charges from my friends account to my checking account.
She couldn't even tell me the date that the Bank of Am. account was added to my account. How could they not know that information?
More importantly, how could the payment I made from my account, somehow get charged to my friend's checking account who I haven't seen in months???
Any ideas on how this could have happend?
