chase freedom credit card
Since my citicard is going to go from 5% at supermarkets, gas stations, and pharacies like CVS down to 2%, I want to find a better card.
I already got the discover gas card to get my gas back to 5% savings.
As far as the grocery store, the chase card will give 3%. Anyone know of a better card?
Also, is that 3% good also at pharmacy stores like CVS?
Thanks.

I think the 3% is good for groceries, gas and fast food. I think you get 50 for 50, 100 for 100 if you wait till like $200 you get $250

Yes - that's it - I have Chase Freedom.
You can also only earn 3% on the first $600 every month. Everything over that is 1% (& all other types of purchases are 1%). But I Am expecting to make $500 on it this year ($250 x 2).
Phramacy - I don't think so. Gas, fast food, groceries sounds right for the 3%.

We've thought of getting the Chase Freedom, but we have the Chase PerfectCard.
We get 3% on all gas purchases, and 1% back on everything else with no limits (at least the last time I checked). I know that we got back about $850 in rewards last year alone.

We just got it and it has 0% until like june 2008. That is why we got it although you have to have been offered this in the mail so we will not be using it for a while we will just keep the money we took for the balance transfer in the MM making over 5%

Chase is the king of the fine print.
The "Freedom" card is loaded with restrictions and disclaimers. It sounds a lot better than it is.
I would say check out the terms in full before applying, however, Chase, besides going into a lot of detail explaining away the 3%, etc. also adds this nice little line:
"Additional program terms and conditions apply and will be provided once you become a cardmember."
(i.e. - "trust us")
Hahaha... no thanks Chase.

Poundwise, I thought I was cynical until I met you...
Chase has been good to me. I still have their original Chase Cash Plus Rewards card which pays 5% on supermarket, drugstore, and gas station purchases.
I recently got the Citi Professional card. That will give me 3% at restaurants (and "certain office supply merchants"(?) ). Plus I got 15,000 thank you points as a bonus. Thumbs up.

Don't worry, you're still cynical.
I too, never had problems with Chase (they took over a store card that I once held) but the ads for the Freedom Card v. the actual terms just sort of set me off. Not that other cards are just giving away 5% of everything with no limit on rewards or anything, but this one in particular seems to promise one sort of thing and deliver quite another.

I was looking into the 0% balance transfer to MMA 'creative financing' scheme and found this thread.
- and as usual Sweeps & Poundwise have dominated the scene -
Here are 2 cards for you to scrutinize: Citi Driver's Edge and PFCU's reward card (you can pass the Military req by joining the National Military Family Association for $20)

I find the Citi Driver's Edge card bizarre. $1 for every 100 miles you drive?? What am I missing?
Penfed's card is good. 1.25% for everday purchases -- that's hard to beat.

PFCU also has the 5% gas thing. I actually don't drive on a medical disability. Just saw its 6% off gas for the first year offer; I guess you just send in a certified picture of your odometer?

Yeah, first year is pretty good, but then it drops off to 3%.
I read that when you bring your car to a dealer/garage for maintenance, you make a copy of the bill and send it to Citibank to prove your mileage. Again, I think this is a strange gimmick, and I predict it won't last too long.

I don't disagree. (No really.)
However, I still think that 3% on gasoline, auto parts, and maintenance with 1% on everything else is pretty good. (My apologies if that's off. I've haven't looked at those terms lately, I assume this is still the basic idea of the offer on the Citi Driver's Edge.) At least it doesn't have as low of a ceiling on earnings as the Chase Freedom does.

We have this card. When you take your car in for service, they note the mileage. So, you provide a copy of this service statement to the credit card company as proof of your mileage.
We are enjoying the higher rebate on groceries, gas, and drug stores, since that's basically all we poor grad students spend our extra money on. You get 1% on everything else. You can use what you earn on the purchase of a car, or on service for your car. We got the Driver's Edge card in January and have accrued over $100 so far. We just enrolled in the mileage program last month (had to wait til the car went in for scheduled maintenance to have a recent bill) so we'll see how that goes -- should add about $10/month to our rewards.
I have no complaints so far!

Credit cards with cash back have always been my priority among all other cards as using them i know exactly i'll get something in return. I've been a success with my Chase Bank Perfect MasterCard with no anuual fee and 6% cash back on gas purchases. I am a big gas consumer, you see. But my suggestion is, you if want a card with rebates, choose the one for most frequently bought purchases. Thus you'll profit by it in the most.

Chase Perfectcard is credited every single month. No need to call in to cash in the benefit.
