Why Should I Keep A Lid on Spending? (Community Article)

1. By watching where the money is going I learn self-control. Self-control leads me to the ability to meet some short and long term goals.

2. It helps me teach my children and grand-children fiscal responsibility.

3. It allows me to have enough to give charitably to projects and activities I believe in. It allows me to be more value-driven not only in my financial life but my community life as well.

6. By choosing to spend carefully, I tend to buy QUALITY OVER QUANTITY, or as my Granny 'Diamond Lil' used to say, "Trinkets or Treasures?" when trying to get me to think about the long-term effects of my spending. I can buy one really terrific classic Treasure that will last a lifetime or lots of el-cheapo Khotsky-trinkets that may break or wear out before the week is over!

7. avoid additional fees associated with debt (bounced check fees, interest fees, late payment fees)

6. By choosing to spend carefully and less frequently, I tend to buy QUALITY OVER QUANTITY, or as my Granny 'Diamond Lil' used to say, "Trinkets or Treasures?" when trying to get me to think about the long-term effects of my spending. I can buy one really terrific classic Treasure that will last a lifetime or lots of el-cheapo Khotsky-trinkets that may break or wear out before the week is over!

What is that saying?, "The poor buy STUFF, while the rich buy ASSETS."

7. I avoid additional fees associated with debt (bounced check fees, interest fees, late payment fees).

8. I become a more environmentally friendly consumer in that I make my economic footprint smaller leaving more for others on the earth to consume. If I make a smaller home purchase because I'm watching my spending then I don't have to spend as much to heat, cool, insure, maintain. Which leaves more sustainable commodities available for others usage.

10. It allows me to be choosy about the kind of work I do. I can choose jobs and projects that I believe in rather than needing any job that comes along so I can pay the bills.
