I use to carry a balance and didn't think much of it; the rate was pretty low. But then I made it a new year's resolution to pay everything off and never carry a balance again. I have kept that resolution for several years now. I do earn up to $500 in reward cash each year!

Pay in full monthly.

We have two active cards, one of which is a reward card that we use for getting the free float & the reward - I can leave our money in the MMA earning interest for a goodly number of days which suits me fine, then pop off and pay it before it's due. Mostly used for large ticket items, doctor's bills, online purchases. I am trying to train myself to use it for groceries and gas!

At one time we did carry some 0% balances, but the money was in the bank to pay them off at any time.

As one of the other posters said, it's a mindset and a discipline. One that's good for the ol' bottom line.

For as long as I've had a card, normally I only have one but now I have an emergency one I never use, I've always paid off the balances. I'm one of those folks apparently there aren't a lot of us, whose credit report shows all green boxes.

I'm looking for a better rewards card though so I'm pretty ruthless about canceling when I get a new one. It doesn't seem to be hurting my score really.

While we have old CC debt on a 0% offer that we are paying down, the other CC we have that we charge to each month is paid off. We use it for gas, groceries, anything we buy on a regular basis as part of an average life. We've not added to our CC debt since Oct. 2005.

I don't find having the CC tempting at all. Of course, it helps that I don't go to the mall or Target at lunch anymore, unless there is something specific I need to get! We've done a really good job at sticking to our budget. I find the key is to allow a bit of "fun" spending. Not a lot, but I find that if you don't buy something that's just a "want" now and again you go a bit nuts.
