Default anyone use watchmycell.com?

It's a free site that lets you know how many minutes you've used on your cell phone plan. I saw it recommended on a finance blog.

Sounds kinda Big Brother-ish to me. Although not as bad as Yodlee.

Can't you get this info from your service provider? Mine (Verizon Wireless) has a number you can dial to get an almost-real time report of the # of minutes you have used. It also sends you the info in a text message.

Yeah, I can call from the phone to check but it's my DH's phone I need to monitor. And that means I can really only do it when he's around. Not that he'd mind, but I forget about stuff like that during family time.

Uhhhhhh ... why can't DH monitor his phone usage? Watchmycell looks like it sends a text or email reminder to your computer when you get low on minutes so you don't have to check the balance. Or am I missing something?

Well, we'd all like to be in relationships where each person takes equal responsibility for finances but the reality is that a lot of us aren't. Given that overages can be a budget buster, for us that means that I watch the minutes. If you're in a relationship where both partners are on the same page financially, don't take it for granted. It's a beautiful thing.

As it turns out the new plan has a free service to check the minutes. So I won't be needing the website after all.

We have so many hundreds of minutes we couldn't possibly use we have no need for this service. The lowest number of minutes we could get on the family plan was 850. Nights and weekends, when we make most of our calls, don't count against the minutes. Plus unused minutes roll over. We always have at least 4,000 minutes stored plus the 850 for each month. Between the 4 of us, we don't come anywhere close to using them all.

I would be weary to use this service. I work for a large nationwide provider and I have not heard of this service. In addition, all companies offer easy ways to check your minutes for free, for just a simple call, or text message, or logging on to the internet.

I would be very weary to try this third party service.
