From the site:

"This data is coming to you in real-time. Please keep in mind that this data is from a small number of users and should not (yet) be a representation of American credit card debt as a whole. This is for educational and research purposes only."

Interesting, but the info is only coming from those people who have signed up for whatever service they offer - definitely not representative of the US as a whole. It might be higher than reality if people with $0 balances are not signing up (which they probably wouldn't need this service). Likewise, I'm sure there are plenty of people with $50k balances who don't sign up either.

The data reflects only people who register with the site and report their information, so it's not exactly comprehensive and may not be representative.

I personally am stunned that credit cards are not available to people in Alaska, the Dakotas, and West Virginia.

I was wondering the same thing as fairy74. Why is Colorado so heavily into debt?

As mentioned before, this site is not comprehensive. The data only reflects the cc balances of the people who signed up. I would by no means take this as a representative of the entire US population. You have no idea how big the sample is - it could be 2 people in a given state, or 2000. And I am guessing that the reason some states are not representated is that no person in Alaska, for example, signed up for this service.
