According to an article in an article in MSN, 1 in 7 Americans carry 10 credit cards... Maybe I'll start my own survey here to see if this is true...
How many credit cards do you own? I have 2 cards... ![]() |

I think we may have 4 cards.
2 cards - main one and backup. I think dh has 2 cards he never canceled. A sears card to get 10% discount and an older card - his first credit card. I know the wisdom is to not cancel old cards but our FICO score is stellar and we shop around an always cancel the old ones when we upgrade. But dh is a little lazier which is probably fine because I cancelled 1 card this year already - try not to overdo it. But he had intended to cancel the sears one after we got the discount. |

I have 2.
1 for business (Visa) 1 for personal (Mastercard) The wife has 3: 1 for personal 1 for Kohl's 1 for Macy's I guess she opened up the other two because of one time discount sometime - we pay all of them off every month. I should also note though I do have a revolving line of credit through my business, which is similiar to a credit card minus the outrageous interest rate. I think I am currently paying around 10%. I get to deduct that interest. |

We have 4 that get used: 2 Visa and 2 Discover. We have one more that does not get used. Then there are a couple that never got cancelled so I would guess are on some type of inactive status.

DH and I each have one... Visa thru our credit union that we pay online every month...

We have three active cards -
-MBNA/BOA (after they merged) Mastercard that I have had since college -Discover that we have had for at least 6-7 years (this is our cashback card) -AmEx we opened last year to get a 0% rate for DH's tuition - we'll close it after we pay the balance off I've had probably 5 or so more over the years. I opened a Sears account twice to get discounts on major purchases. I also opened an Amazon one once to get $25 off my purchase. DH had several that he signed up for to get free merchandise in his younger days, but those days are gone We do not plan to get any more, but to keep our two main cards indefinitely. |

I have 1. I don't need it at all, I just have it in order to maintain a good credit score in order to buy a house within the next few years.

I have 10-12, but I only use 2 and I pay them off each month. I just keep the others to keep my credit score up.

I don't have ANY and it feels good. I just have my debit cards... I am very afraid of Credit Cards. I probably owned 6-7 cards throughout my 28 yrs of living on this earth.

No, I am actually a very disciplined debit card user. Thats why I had an online account for Capital One. Once I get paid, I make sure I pay all my bills for the month, then put a large amount into my capital one account. I have an estimated amount I would spend for the month (like going out, going to clubs, etc, etc). I leave that on my debit card. If am I left with anything before my next month's paychecks, I will put the left overs into my capital One account. It takes like 4 days to get money if I want to transfer it from my cap one account. Thats why I've become such an effective saver over the past year. I am very aware when I shop with my debit card, I know it's my money I am using, and I am incredibly conscious of that fact . |
