I love the cash rewards that you get back. I pay the balance in full and get free money once in a while.

I have:

-2 Visas- 1 $0 balance, 1 revolving
-1 MC- small revolving at 0%
-1 Amex- large revolving ( arg!!), but am BT the entire thing to the empty Visa at 3.9%
-1 Personal LOC
-Sears card ( new card in Aug- has $629 @ 0% for a year on it for new stove

Have had many more over the years, but cancelled and closed when better offers came along.

Can't imagine life w/o a CC......how do you book plane tickets or open new bank accounts? Here, if you have no credit, good luck getting an ATM card without hold limits, or overdraft protection.

I don't use my cards anymore tho- am diligently paying the debt down, and if I have to carry a purchase or something, it goes on my PLOC.

currently 2 both from Citi & Master.
Only cash back one is active and no plan to revolve after 0%.

I applied for Chase Freedom (denied)
Now applying for WaMu Visa yesterday. Not to use but they give free FICO credit score.

Future target... Discover Open Road
Chase Freedom (again)

I have none!

I have no problem getting hotel reservations or plane tickets (went to Hawaii with no trouble in 2005). I just use my debit card for things like that.

I just opened a new checking account in August for paying my bills only. I had no trouble at all getting it set up and it came with an ATM card. I haven't even activated it yet since I have a debit card tied to my other checking/savings account. I use that account to tie to my ING accounts, for paying for bowling and my Netflix account. That's about all I use it for any more.

I don't plan on getting any credit cards. I use cash to pay for most everything (groceries, gas, etc) and I have money in savings for bigger purchases if needed.

I didn't know you could use debit cards for hotel rooms or car rentals? That's interesting.

Why didn't you just pay cash for the stove-you could not come up with 600 bucks without resorting to a credit card? THAT, my friend is a problem.
I have bought plane tickets for years with my debit card.
I have had the same bank accounts for years, I do not need another one. Besides, if I did, the bank would look at the amounts I have amassed in my other accounts and feel pretty save about letting a renegade like me open an account. Credit cards are un freaking necessary.
PLOC- how about saving up and paying cash, and owing No one?

I know, shut up finwhiz, it is wayyy tooo radical of a concept...paying cash with money you actually have. I should be shot for my opinions!

Why do you assume she couldn't come up with $600? It makes a lot more sense to take advantage of a 0% CC offer and keep that $600 in the bank earning interest. If I could borrow money at 0%, I'd take all that they would give me. Then I'd park it in a 5% money market account for as long as I could. That's free money.

ok we are one of those people lol we have about 7 and I am in the process of paying off the store cards small balances and getting rid of them. Our goal is to have 1 or 2 that we use for cash back bonus, but it will take time we have not maxed any thank goodness but have balances on them that need to go away in the next months. We learned a bit late not to go crazy with credit, but luckly we are on the right path now.

I have 2. One MC that I need to pay of asap and one store CC. The store CC is ok, since it is, literally, one of only 2 places where I buy clothes. I just want the bic CC debt of the MC gone.

At one point I was in an abusive relationship and through his "persuasion" opened 18 CCs and maxed the all out on stuff for him.

Dumb Dumb Dumb.

2 cards

1 Business - Citibank Driver's Edge Visa - gives you points towards a new car. I have about $600.

1 Personal - Chase Disney Rewards Visa - gives you points towards Disney Vacations. I have about $60.00 (just opened it - I did ask for a credit increase from $3000 to $5500 since I bought my hardwood floor on it and got withinn $18 of my credit limit - I pay it off every month).

My wife has a Macy's card and a Kohl's card for business clothes so that's 4 cards our household has. I guess she got those cards because of a discount for opening them up.

I have 2 credit cards. They are both Mastercards. 1 I only use a few times a year to keep it active, but always keep it at a 0 balance. The other I use more often (a Lot less often then I used to use it in the past). I, for the most part, pay it off in full every month. I try to use cash for as much as I possible. I used to use a debit card, but had 2 Major incidents with it, so I traded it in for an old fashion ATM card. I'll never use a debit card again after that.

Red face Too many

I couldn't even tell you. I still have cards in my former name, cards in my married name, DH has his previous cards and now we have a few joint cards too. And that's not including debit cards.

Sounds like a good new year resolution: close some accounts.

None have a balance. I'm somebody who gets a store card to "save 15% on todays purchase" then I pay it and never use the card again. They just accumulate.

We only each use a debit card and once in awhile a credit card.

lol...fatcatz... that was our new years resolution last year - consolidate our accounts. it felt good once we did!

we now have one very high limit credit card (unused!), one unused discover card, and one visa card with our remaining final credit card balance on it - at 0% interest. we dont use them anymore. we also consolidated our banking - we have one main "bill" checking account, one personal (mine) and one savings account. my hubby prefers his spending money in cash, and we use one debit card (from our main checking) only when we're together.

oh - i use to (erroneously!) think (back when i was first starting out with credit) that one should have every different type of card available (visa, MC, Amex, Disc) and that it was a status symbol to have platinum..or gold.. etc. what a bunch of marketing hogwash! my life is better off without them.

One for business and two personal ones - one of which I reduced the credit limit on for extra security with online shopping. ( I know you're generally covered against fraud but it makes me feel happier)

I always pay them off in full every month except if I've used them for a BIG spend like booking a holiday.
