Default Say you worked for a criminal company....

What if you found out that the company you worked for had never paid your social security taxes over several months, that they had just kept the money? Suppose they did not pay your other taxes either.

Is there provision to credit the worker for those months of work when the time comes to determine Social Security eligibility? How could a person make sure appropriate information gets into his Social Security records?

Not asking for myself, but I do know someone this happened to. The proprietors absconded with quite a bit of money, not just from unpaid taxes.

Did the deduction appear on the pay stub, other wards I would contact the IRS especially if you are showing a deduction, I would also contact the BBB and my state attorney's office. Every year you should receive a statement from Social security officce right before your birthday as well with your contributions

I had a relative have a issue with this. Not that they were crooks per se, but they just did not have the money. They kept asking me for all kinds of advice because they never got even pay stubs!!!!!! HAd no clue how to do their taxes come tax time. The company ran out of money and was laid off eventually. I Was at a loss - told them to call the IRS. & told them to never accept a check without a pay stub!

Definitely call the IRS for advice. I know my relative got it straightened out - the IRS gave them guidance. IRS collects the money & enforces payment of social security taxes so a good place to start.

Be careful if your friend was in managment or had check writing privliges, the IRS can go after him or her for the money, don't sound right but I have seen it happen. If not in above position then it's going to be fine the IRS has delt with kind of problems for the past 50 years. I think they have it down by now or do they???
