Question Should I report my income?

Hi, I'm new to the forums and hopefully I'm posting in the right section.

The answers to my obvious question should be YES of course (although some of us would like to be the opposite )

Anyways, what I'm actually trying to say is this:

I recently started working in Oct 06. Since it was a part time job, I recently finished last week.

A friend of mine told me I should report my taxes, and that I would receive some sort of fill-in paperwork.

The thing is, I never got any government(?) letter telling me to report taxes or whatever they ask for.

So, should I report now, ask about the paperwork, wait until 07... what?

Thanks in advance and any advice is greatly appreciated!

Did they take taxes out for your PT job? Did you get a W2 from them. Were you an independent contractor. Whatever the answer, you have to report your income. Don't mess with the IRS.

If your income is below the filing requirement, then you do not need to file a tax return. That's not messing with the IRS.

nevermind guys, thanks for the help though

I just asked my employer and she said I should be recieving the W2 form by the end of January.

I'm kind of new to this thing of tax report.

Once I get it, what should I do with it?

Is it too late by the end of the month?

once again, thanks in advance!

You have until April 15th to file your 1040. I would suggest using one of the free file programs through the IRS, but you also have to check with your state to find out their requirements.
