I can assure you that I would take every necessary step to protect my child. There is no doubt about that. When I tried to talk to him last night, he didn't get upset to the point that I thought that he would do something silly. Remember, he has always been a very nice, considerate, thoughtful person...I just can't handle the financial irresponsibility and the lying. But, up to this point I have not been given any indication that he would "freak out". When he showed up at my work this morning, he was trying to be sweet, not threatening in any way. In the beginning, he would show up at my work a lot of mornings to plug in my car (it's cold here) and bring me coffee. I think that he was just trying to be nice. When I tell him the exact words "I don't want to see you anymore"...if he freaks out THEN, and scares me, then it will be a different situation. When I talked to him last night, I was trying to tell him what was bothering me...and that is when he got upset. He knows something is up.

The reason I suggest the con angle, is because I had a friend who got taken that way. No one would have thought-he even had a steady job for 6 years at the same place. But, after she got a PI, she found out he went from GF to GF, dated for about 6 months, then got them to sign loans or buy cars for him, but in their name--used different lines such as ex would take it, or credit was ruined by an ex or former roommate and he couldn't get it in his own name....For the first month, he made the payment to them, then quit. Of course, the bank went after the women. He took 7 gals in my old town that way. They were all too embarresed to go to the cops--her banker was the one who told her she wasnt the first to be taken by him-then she got the PI and they all ended up taking him to court.

Wow, mom-from-missouri...I am so sorry that happened to your friend. I hope that by taking that man to court that she was relieved of her obligation. What a horrible thing!

One thing that I can unequivocally say is that I would NEVER co-sign for a boyfriend, or even probably for a friend for that matter. It just leaves too much room for terrible things to happen. So, no matter what happens, if he is up to something or not, I will NOT let him take advantage of me that way. Won't happen.
