All the banks in my area aren't paying crap (excuse the language) in interest for savings accounts. The best I have been able to find is 1.12% in my area. I've heard that ING pays more, but I'm looking for a non Internet bank that pays higher interest than this. Does anyone know of any?

If you don't mind online banking only, we've switched to NETBANK.com and they've always had the highest interest I've ever seen, because there is no overhead costs. I think they also still offer $50 for opening an account w/ them. We've been w/ them for over 2 years now and have been very pleased. Probably the only inconvenience is that you mail in your deposits (but they provide free envelopes) and free ATM locations are few and far between.
Hope this helps! |

Unless you have a larger amount to invest in a CD, you will probably only find passbook savings accounts in the 1-1.5% range. I have noticed that banks are increasing their rates (slowly) as the Fed raises rates.
