I think the fair tax is an aweful idea.

I would definitely much rather have a flat tax, and as a second choice, I would go with our current system.

In general rich people and poor people will love the "Fair" Tax. People in the middle generally will not. I'm one of the people in the middle.

There is no need to create a tax system which even poor people can easily understand, IMO.

Maybe I am elitist, but poor people pay little tax in the current system, and even 75% of people are in the two lowest tax brackets.

The rich pay more in taxes than poor people do, and the tax is progressively more based on the income of the person being taxed.

Wow I thought with all these savers a fair tax would be more popular. It really benifits someone like us who saves 1/3 of our salary and plans to retire early. We would pay about $5000 less in taxes each year with the fair tax.

I've always felt it is a weakness of this country that we rely so heavily on large consumption. Finding a way to slow our consumption without putting half the country in the poor house would be a challenge. Slowing our lifestyle needs to become a trend. Hopefully, the rewards would be less stress, better health and peace of mind.

No, i'm not sitting here smoking pot.

On a related topics, politicians want to get tough on "illegal" immigrants who don't pay taxes but do consume public services.

If all they care about is the budget, they should also deport US citizens who don't pay any taxes, since they say that everybody consumes public services.
