My mom and I were at her attorney on Thursday because she is in the process of selling her house and we needed the sale contract reviewed. When she mentioned that she had moved from PA to NJ, the lawyer said to be sure and have her will reviewed. Wills are state documents and the laws vary somewhat from one state to another. Her will was prepared by a PA lawyer while she was a PA resident. When she dies, however, the will must be interpreted from the point of view of NJ law.
So for any of you who have moved from one state to another, or have parents or relatives who have, be sure and have your wills reviewed by an attorney in your new home state.

Excellent advice. The law can vary A LOT from state to state so you may need a new will, power of attorney, etc.

This is especially important if you move to/from a community property state. Thanks for the reminder Steve!
