I know Dave Ramsey admonishes his followers to "sell so much stuff the kids will think they're next!" but this lady....
Woman sells eggs to pay off debt hey, if ya got 'em and don't need 'em, go for it I guess! ![]() (granted, if there are health implications to siphoning off pieces of your core to sell for cash, I'm ignorant of the fact so please excuse my flippant nature) |

I was reading an article recently (in Money magazine perhaps?) about college students participating in medical studies to raise money. They mentioned becoming an egg donor. The procedure is not without risk as it is an invasive surgical procedure with anesthesia, so there is always a chance of things going wrong. Kind of a risky way to make money, though with a big financial reward.
Personally, I wouldn't have any surgery that wasn't absolutely necessary, no matter what you paid me.

I would agree, except for the vasectomy for men. I've got one. Best fully-insured medical procedure I ever "paid" for.
![]() I've got a friend who has 3 kids and both him and his wife are deathly afraid of having more. I'm trying to talk him into a vasectomy as we speak. |

I have never even had my ears pierced, I don't like pain!

What is next Kidneys? Pieces of your Liver? Why would a woman risk infertility or death in order to pay off a debt? There is something intrinsically wrong with this!

Personally, I went through IVF. Fortunately I was able to use my own eggs. I am young and in good health. I have thought seriously about selling my eggs and even looked into in here where I live. Many women cannot have children without someone else's eggs. I looked at it as a plus for both sides. Now, I won't be doing the procedure for at least 5 more years, but I have thought about it. And the money they are willing to give you (around $4500) is worth it, IMO.

Well if its putting your health at risk then NO WAY would I do it. But what other jobs put people at risk everyday!!! This is a young unmarried women probably not thinking obviously not thinking about her future which is why she is in debt to begin with right??
But I did watch a show today where someone had donated thier eggs if people donate why not sale everything is worth money these days Everything HAS a price tag!!! Sadly kids do too sometimes look at how much infertile people spend every year on meds to become fertile ya know!! Not sure I would do it guess it would depend on what the risks are & not sure I would not want to raise my own kids NO in fact I know I would have to raise any baby that is mine!!! |

I guess the risks that I could see are just going under a local anesthesia. At least that is what happened to me, when I did my In Vitro. Small needle was inserted, removed the eggs, and I woke up. It's not a surgery by any means. And honestly you don't really ahve to go under anesthesia if you don't want to. Again, not too many risks, IMO

My sister sold her eggs. But it was after she had already had her uterus removed due to a bad fibroid. She was (obviously) done having her kids (3) and they really needed the $$. Personally I wouldn't do it, I couldn't risk my future kids. But she didn't have that worry. I don't know if my mind would change if my situation did. All I can say is that currently I can't see myself doing it.
That said during my first year or two of college I did donate plasma frequently. It averaged 15 - 25 a session and you could go twice a week. If you donated as often as they allowed you made $160 a month. Not tons, but when you live off $400 a month that is a HUGE raise. It also took a while. After the waiting to be serviced and going through the process it took at least two hours. I can also remember being really light headed afterwards a few times. So I can understand the need. |
